The Sunday Meal

One of my favorite days as a child was Friday. My mom used to pick me up after work and take me to the grocery store. The cupboards looked bare on Thursday, and I was running out of my favorite foods. So, when Friday came, I was ready for our weekly trip to restock. I loved walking through all the aisles with Mom, finding treasures among the variety on the shelves.

My anticipation for Sunday is similar to my childhood excitement for Fridays. Sunday is the day I gather with my local family of believers and feast. Just as my parents worked hard to provide for our family, our pastor works diligently throughout the week to prepare a meal from God’s word. To prepare for our Sunday meal, we should pray that, like Jeremiah, we would eat God’s words and that God’s words would become the joy and delight of our hearts (Jer. 15:16). We can feast on this meal because “we are called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts.” May God satisfy your hunger this coming Lord’s day and every Lord’s day.
